Security agents abducted Athman, Tengeza, and Mwinyi on February 16, 2021, in Likoni, Mombasa. Athman and Mwinyi were on February 22 found dead, with gunshots wounds, at Coast Provincial General Hospital. Mwinyi's body was discovered at Coast Provincial General Hospital (CPGH) morgue. He had gunshot entry wounds to the chest and wide exit gashes in the back.
