Witnesses have said a senior police officer attached to Coast Guard at Lake Naivasha shot and killed Simon Thuku on February 16 in Nakuru county, Naivasha subcounty,Karagita estate. A witness said the deceased was a licensed fisherman. Media quoted a witness as saying, “One of the fisheries officers had arrested us before the senior guy from Kenya Coast Guards Service came in and opened fire without any provocation,” said the witness. Thuku was shot in the back six times. Traders said that the perpetrator and the deceased had known each other and had been involved in a slight argument. Naivasha subcounty deputy commissioner who confirmed the incident said the matter is under investigation by Independent Police Oversight Authority and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations.
