Bodaboda Rider
On September 25, 2021, Rabin Patel Ogeto, a 30 year old boda-boda rider, was riding his motorcycle in downtown Nairobi when he was allegedly flagged down by a police officer for riding on the wrong side of Kirinyaga Road. According the United Bodaboda Association, the officer demanded a bribe and when Ogeto said he did not have any money an altercation started. This is when the officer shot him dead. The officer – allegedly known as Elija Mutunga - was attacked by an angry mob, rushed to Nairobi Hospital under critical condition. Central Policy Deputy OCPD, denies these claims and reported that 26-year-old Elijah Mutunga was attacked by a mob of bodaboda riders. The officers were forced to shoot in the air to disperse the mob. IPOA and IAU launched investigations into the case
