Three cops arrested for kidnapping students and demanding hefty ransoms

Saturday, 11th February 2023

Three police officers were arrested on Thursday, February 9, on suspicion of abducting two university students and attempting to extort their families Ksh 200,000.

According to a report by Standard Media, the officers attached to the Dog Unit in Nairobi kidnapped the two male students of Daystar and JKUAT universities at Magharibi Buildings in South C on February 3.

They then held them captive for four hours, accusing them of being in possession of bhang.

Each of the students was taken to an undisclosed location in two different vehicles, a Toyota Vitz and a Toyota Premio.

The cops then ordered their two victims to make telephone their parents and ask them to send Ksh 100,000 to secure their freedom.

One of the students managed to raise Ksh 20,000 and was released, but the second student was not able to raise the ransom.

The mother of the second student rushed to the site where he was being held and requested the officers to set him free.

The police officers however declined, insisting that she find the money.

The women then crafted a ploy to dupe the officers into believing they would get their money if they accompanied her to an ATM machine. As they did so, she saw other police officers and raised the alarm.

At that point, the three kidnappers were arrested and are waiting to be charged with robbery with violence.
