Friday, 7th April 2023

A police officer was taken into custody after he shot and injured two people involved in a scuffle in Umoja on Wednesday.

The officer, a bodyguard assigned to Embakasi West MP Mark Mureithi Mwenje, reportedly discharged his weapon in the scuffle pitting the incumbent and his supporters against former area MP George Theuri.

According to reports, Mwenje had organized a meeting at the nearby National Government Constituency Fund offices to plan for a bursary issuance exercise that was slated for Thursday.

“They stormed the swimming pool whose management is still under the former MP’s people and stopped what we were doing forcing us to retreat into a library,” the incumbent said.

Mwenje added that the rowdy assailants pursued them even in the library and the scuffle ensued.

He said it is at that point that his bodyguard shot the two men, leaving them with injuries in the abdomen and thigh.

Theuri on his part claimed that he was at work at the time of the incident and denied any role in the incident.

The police officer in question was disarmed before being arrested. He is currently detained at the Buruburu Police Station.
