The Police have narrowed down investigations to one person who they believe may have fired the bullet that killed Willis Mugambi in Chuka town during demonstrations on Saturday.

Speaking to Members of Parliament on Wednesday, April 12, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki said both the police and the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) are conducting different investigations.

The ivestigations were launched following the killing of Willis Mugambi during the demonstrations calling for a probe into another mysterious death in Chuka town.

“It’s suspected that he could have been killed by police during the riot; we have narrowed down to the person who shot dead Mr Mugambi and will name him soon,” Kindiki told legislators.

Kindiki also revealed that the police have orders not to use excessive force or use live bullets to disperse protesters.

“The police are under very strict instructions not to use live bullets when dealing with members of the public. Infact, the reason the OCDP was transferred was because there were very strict orders given by the Inspector General of Police that there should be no live bullets used in crown control, not just in Chuka, but also in other protests too,” he said.

In the meantime, resident of Chuka remain steadfast that justice must be found for Mugambi’s family and the police officer behind the shooting be held accountable. On Wednesday, they took to the streets again to show their resolve in the quest, demanding faster action.
