IPOA opens probe into Garissa police shootings

 

The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) on Wednesday, December 14 announced that it had opened investigations into the shooting of two men in Garissa, one of whom was killed.


The authority noted that police officers allegedly shot dead Shamsa Gulled Abdille and seriously injured Abdirahman Noor Ibrahim.


The shootings occured on Tuesday, December 13, at around 8:30PM along the police officers where Shamsa Gulled Abdille was fatally shot and Abdirahman Noor Ibrahim seriously injured.


IPOA did not disclose further details of the shootings.


“In line with provisions of IPOA Act, which dictates that deaths and injuries occasioned by actions of the police be investigated by the Authority, a Rapid Response Team was this morning dispatched to the area with instructions to obtain all information that may be relevant in unveiling the circumstances surrounding the incident,” it said in a statement.
