Loose gun control in Kenya still remains a major security threat to citizens. In 2012, the Small Arms Survey estimated that there were about 530,000 to 680,000 firearms in civilian hands, most of which were illegal. It is against this backdrop that the Kenyan Government set ablaze 5,250 illegal firearms on the 15th of November 2016 even as it appealed to herders and criminals to surrender unlicensed weapons. Africa Uncensored’s Elijah Kanyi spoke to Francis Orasa, the founder of a gun-repossession enterprise dubbed “Drop The Gun Initiative” which targets the youth in Nairobi’s Kibera slum.
