Three suspected robbers were killed on Thursday night in what police said was a confrontation with them.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations claimed on Facebook that the three attempted to engage the law enforcers in a gun battle.
The officers drawn from Buruburu police station had allegedly spotted three suspicious men riding on an unmarked motorcycle along Outer Ring road way past curfew hours, who sped off after they were beckoned to stop. Missing Voices could not independently verify this claim or the identity of the three suspects.
“A hot chase ensued before the suspects were intercepted around Saika stage, where they abandoned the motorcycle and took to their heels,” DCI said.
The police claim the three were met by a backup team of officers from Obama and Kayole stations who ambushed them at the Mwengenye-Dandora bridge.
“Cornered and defying surrender orders, one of the suspects dressed in a jungle tactical gear brandished a Pistol, which prompted an immediate response from the police which saw the trio fatally injured,” said the police in a statement.
Cases of police shooting and killing suspects who have surrendered are on the rise and human rights organisations have raised concern on how police seem to eliminate suspects who have already surrendered.
