Police kill seven suspects in Kiambu in three months

Police in Ruiru on Friday killed two suspected robbers at Githurai Kimbo,Kiambu county police commander Ali Nuno has told the Missing Voices.

Nuno said police on patrol came across four suspects at 3.30 AM. He said they allegedly refused to comply with the officers’ orders to stop.

This brings to seven suspects killed by police in Kiambu county for the last three months. It is not clear whether this is the latest policy in dealing with suspects in the county.

Two armed suspects were on May 21 killed by undercover detectives along Kamiti road near Jacaranda Gardens after they allegedly abducted an Anglican clergy,John Cege from Kabete.

Nuno at the time told the press that the four suspects held Cege hostage for close to six hours and that they were armed with two pistols. He said they demanded sixty thousand ransom from Cege’s family.

Two more suspects were on June 3 killed along the Southern Bypass at Thogoto by police officers disguised as joggers.

Nuno said three armed robbers tried to attack his officers which prompted them to open fire killing two suspects instantly while one escaped with gunshot wounds.

He said a sword,a panga and three mobile phones were recovered from the deceased.

On June 22,a businessman was murdered on Thika supperhighway at Gwa Kairu by what police initially said were gunmen riding a motorcycle who sprayed his car with hail of bullets.

Missing Voices independently confirmed the businessman, Daniel Gacumo was executed by undercover police.Police later said Gacumo was a notorious criminal who was facing robbery cases in court.

Speaking about the Githurai Kimbo incident on Friday Nuno said, “Police challenged them to stop but these bad boys fired at the police. A fierce fire ensued.Two were fatally injured and a mini-ceska pistol recovered from one of the suspects.”

A junior officer privy to the operation who spoke on condition of anonymity as he is not allowed to address media said police recovered spent cartridge from the scene.

The bodies were taken to General Kago funeral home in Thika. Nuno said the deceased did not have identification documents.

The police commander who is known for dealing ruthlessly with suspected armed criminals said the other suspects escaped on foot with one pistol.

He said that his officers are on high alert to pursue the suspects.”Criminals should not try their business in unfamiliar territory. Incase of any invasion,we are on them.” He said.
