Despite being allocated billions of shillings each year, the Kenya Police still ranks among the most corrupt in the world. This perhaps is because the government gives lesser focus to their welfare compared to machinery and working conditions. A constable, the lowest ranking officer, earns a basic salary of $187 a month although this is set to be increased progressively to $328 by 2020. The World Internal Security and Police Index 2016 placed Kenya in the bottom five globally with Botswana being the best in Africa and position 47 in the world.
