REPORT

The bodies of 18-year-old Nicholas Maithya Mutatha and 22-year-old Asman Kamau were found on Thika River on May 16th. Reports allege that the deceased were fishing at Thika River when they were arrested by two police officers from Ithanga Police Station, handcuffed together and thrown into the river – as a result of an anti-illicit brew operation. The police deny these reports and claim the two men met their fate while running away frm the police officers and the chief. Muthatha and Kamau’s parents deny the polices’ allegations. Muthatha and Kamau were described as hardworking and employed – Muthatha was a vegetable seller while Kamau was a boda-boda operator. The two were childhood friends and schooled together at Ngatho Primary School. According to sources, it was a coincidence that Maithya visited Kamau when Kamau was leaving his house to go fishing.
