Carlton David Maina

Maina 23, was shot dead on the night of December 21 2018. The 23-year-old was returning home from watching football in Line Saba, Kibera when he was killed by the police. Maina had returned to Kenya from West Yorkshire where he was studying electronic engineering at Leeds University. He was also known for giving a TEDx talk about poverty and violence. In the talk, he critiqued class dynamics, law enforcement, and criminal justice systems in Kenya and globally. He had also spoken about the potential power for education to take people out of poverty.
