On July 25, 2020, residents of Garissa town protested the attempted arrest of an individual by CID plainclothes officers. Police officers fired in the air to disperse the protesters. Under unclear circumstances police officers killed Aden Abdi Madobe and Muyadin Adow Shibin and injured an unidentified woman.
The IG has directed the IAU to carry out immediate investigations and the DCI to carry out forensic analysis on the firearms used by the officers. These investigations will allow IPOA and the ODPP to establish whether the officers were justified to use their firearms or not.
